Liquidity

by

Liquidity measures how fast and cheaply an asset turns into spendable cash. A savings account is highly liquid; a house is illiquid — selling takes months and meaningful transaction costs.

Liquidity matters most in emergencies: financial planners recommend keeping an emergency fund in highly liquid accounts precisely so you never have to sell investments at a bad time to cover a surprise expense.
