Chennai: Students registering for the online post-graduate entrance medical examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences are unable to lock centers in Chennai or Pondicherry as a center because testing seats in these centers have been exhausted.

The online submission of applications began on January 7, but several candidates began the process only on Friday when the center extended the cut-off dates for completion of the internship to June 2023. “By the time I logged in, there were no testing seats available in the state or in Pondicherry,” said Dr. Arul Kumara PG aspirant.

Tamil Naduwhich has the highest number of medical colleges in the country, is likely to have many students appearing for the post-graduate examination, said Manickkavel Arumugam, who counsels students in medical admissions. “The testing agency should have been prepared to see a large number of students,” he said.

On Friday, the National Board of Examination announced that testing seats in Chennai were exhausted and the option to choose Chennai as the test city was no longer available in the list of available test cities for NEET-MDS (dental) 2023. had received requests from students to increase testing seats in Chennai. In a notice, it asked candidates desirous of appearing for the test in Chennai to choose “others” as their test city choice for the computer-based platform at various centers across the country.

,NBEMS will make all efforts to allot a testing center in the city of Chennai to all such candidates opting ‘others’ and who reside within or nearby Chennai, it said. Candidates have been asked to call the care support team at 022 – 61087595 or write to the agency’s helpline portal.

Candidates appearing for NEET-PG have urged the testing agency to set up similar facilities for students appearing in medical courses too.
