Nagpur: The 72nd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) in the city from Friday will not only see bigwigs of the pharma industry but many interesting sessions on various aspects will also be addressed by them.
Prominent among those participating in the mega event include chairman and MD Dr Krishna Ella of Bharat Biotechwhich produced the highly successful Covaxin to fight the COVID-19Dr Dilip Shangvi of Sun PharmaS Sridhar of Pfizer India, Yogesh Agrawal of Ajanta Pharma, and MM Reddy of Aurobindo Pharma, among others. Many Vidarbha region heads of companies like Suresh Sharma of Baidyanath, Amit Pendharkar of Vicco Laboratories, Dr Anwar Daud of Zinc Laboratories, Mahendra Kshirsagar of Wardha’s Genetek Life Sciences, and Ravleen Singh Khurana of Nikita Pharmaceuticals would also be part of the event. The IPC is being held in the city after a gap of 41 years.
Organizing secretary Prakash Itankarwho is from the Nagpur University’s department of pharmaceutical sciences, which is hosting the conference, told TOI that all the visiting industrialists would have an interaction session with Union minister Nitin Gadkari after the opening ceremony at a specially created VIP lounge from 12.30pm on Friday.
“Our team members would showcase the advantages of the region to the industrialists with a view that they should invest by setting up their units here. Even the minister would also seek their opinion on their investment plans. It is a good opportunity to promote our region as an investment destination,” he said.
Itankar added that there would be a second session with all these leading industrialists where citizens can also interact with them. “Their representatives would speak about their respective organizations along with powerpoint presentations. Additionally, there is a Human Resources (HR) conclave, where 30-35 professionals from leading pharma industries would participate. They would speak about job expectations for their companies. It would be a good chance for pharma students and graduates,” he said.
After the inaugural session at 10am, ACG Capsules Limited chairman Ajit Singh would deliver the keynote address in Friday’s opening session of the event which is based on the theme ‘Access to quality and affordable medical products’. Drug Controller General of India Dr Venugopal Somani, also president of Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA), would preside over the function.
Over 10,000 delegates would participate in the mega event from India and abroad. Besides the event, the organizers have organized cultural nights on Friday and Saturday. On January 20, popular singer Javed Ali of Pushpa fame would perform while on the next day veteran singer Nitin Mukesh would enthrall visitors.
